Sunday Sept 27

I have been meaning to blog but kept forgetting to update so I'll do it now. We've been here two weeks now and we're surprised at how many are already here for the winter. The people I've talked too all said the same things "where they spent the summer was cooler and wetter than normal so they headed back to the valley early". Well, approx 9 of the 14 days we've been here it's rained..now the locals are happy to see the rain but the rest of us have seen it all summer. It actually stayed in the 60's a couple of days this past week with drizzle..how odd is that..
I found out that the fruit tree with dozens of green fruit is tangerine and they are starting to change from green to orange, the grapefruit tree has about 5 or 6 and the orange tree has 1, only one.
Our Anniversary was Friday . our 28th yeah! So we went to Tony Roma's for an early supper. It was pretty good. We'd gone there a couple of other times with friends and since the closest Famous Dave's is over 700 miles away Tony's is our next choice.
We'll be doing our usual stuff this week..golfing, walking, biking, groc shopping and driving miss Lady..

we're back in the valley Sept 13

After 5 days of traveling through Alabama, Miss, Louisana we're now in Texas. We arrived back in the valley about noon today. We're about 3 weeks ahead of our winter schedule but we we'd been hanging around the southeast for about 8 weeks now so we were ready to get out of the humidity. We know it will be warm here for another month but we can take the heat as long as the humidity is low and it generally is here in South TX.
We have the Everest set up on our main lot so we parked the MH on the "rental lot" for the time being. We have to make sure everything is in working order on the E since it's been in storage for 3 years. So far everything seems to be working good. Next came opening up the Casita and getting the patio furniture and golf cart out of it. Lady saw the cart and couldn't help herself she ran and jumped on the seat ready for her ride around the block...she had to wait a few hours but she got her ride.
Our bushes are full and blooming and the plam trees are growing faster than we thought they would. A couple of the fruit trees have small green fruit on them. We believe one is grapefruit and one is orange.
No major plans for the rest of the week. We'll work on getting moved into the E and the Casita and closing up the MH for the winter. Most of our friends want be back till later in Oct and Nov so we'll entertain ourselves till they start arriving.

On the beach in MS Sept 10

We arrived at the Rv park on the beach and it was a little different than I'd visualized but it's ok. For some reason I was thinking the highway would behind us and the beach in front. But we're across the road from the beach.. but it's still nice and when the sun reflects off the water it's pretty. It's a small park and only about four rv's using it right now. It probally gets busy over the weekends.
I had a great day yesterday for my birthday. I recieved several calls and emails. 40 is so much fun, I've celebrated it for years now. We drove down Hwy 90 looking at the coast and seeing all the rebuilding from Katrina. Several new homes have been built and they are working on the piers too. It's taken a while but it's coming back. We were told by the park security that they've just now started work on redoing the state park that was wiped out. We use to stay there when we were in the area.
I think we're taking Lady for a walk on the beach later..She likes looking at the water but when the waves lap up on the sand she runs the other way.

Time to head to Texas Sept 7th

We've been in Gulf Shores AL for the past month and it's been fun but it's time to get on the road again. It's nice here and a good place to spend some time but next time we'll try doing that either in the spring or fall when it's cooler. It has cooled down some over the past couple of weeks but it's subject to rain anytime. That's the part that Reid didn't like. It would be sunny one minute and thundering and raining the next. We took a drive this week to Pensacola and ended up at Famous Daves for some ribs before heading back to GS. We want be near another FD's till the Spring. We have really enjoyed the seafood rests here. Doc's and The Shrimp Basket are two of our favorite. The best peel and eat shrimp I've had. And Reid likes the seafood gumbo and blacken fish.
We're leaving tomorrow and taking I-10 to MS for a few days. We're going to this RV park that's advertised "right on the beach" We'll see. It will be nice if you can look out the windows and see the coast line. This park has been built since Katrina so it's new and we didn't see it when we came through earlier in the spring. (we didn't know about it) I'll let you know if it's as good as advertised.
