what's gone on since my last post Dec 27

We'll the month has just moved along..The week of the 8th moved along ok with plenty to do and fun to be had.. We had a dance Saturday night that didn't go so well. Lots of people started getting sick and feeling lightheaded so we cleared out the rec ctr called 911 and found out that fumes were backing up inside the ctr some how..several people registered high for Carbon Monx and the ctr was closed till it could be tested..lucky for everyone it was ready to open again by Tues.
On Sunday we had our mini E rally/cookout. Our friends W&G and S&J came over and we had a fun afternoon. Now for the blah part...I woke up Tues morning early chilled and feeling blah..I turned the heat on and got warmed back up and went back to bed. I woke up about 8ish and felt weak but ok..I got ready went to the office to do my two hours and all went well, by 2pm I was sick...the chills were back and the fever was on...I managed to get Lady to the groomers on Wed still not thinking I was too bad off but by Wed night I was pretty out of it and stayed that way till the next Wed. I didn't have the H1 flu but the other kind..it was awful...chills, fever, throwing up, headache...you get the idea. My faithful sidekick stuck by me through it all. Sleeping whereever I slept, she'd whine if she needed to go out but the rest of the time she just laid beside me while I slepted. I thought by Sunday I was some better but Monday I was down again..the fever finally broke sometime on Wed..I did my best though to stay away from everyone till my fever was gone for close to 48 hrs..By Friday I was feeling pretty good but I missed all the activities leading up to Christmas..But its over now so I'll look forward to the new year.
Our friends Phyllis and Larry arrived last Wednesday but I haven't seen them much, I stayed away from them waving from the rv when I saw them. They went to see friends in Bandera for the holidays so I'll see them when they get back. My park friends have been great. They sent over soup, cards, emails, baked goods and well wishes thru Reid..(I'm so glad he didn't get sick)
I'll get back into the swing of things this week and get out and about in the park to see if I've missed anything the past couple of weeks.
The weather this month has not been as good as last year, in fact the whole month has been cold, damp, and cloudy so we're hoping for a bright, sunny, drier and warmer January.

Time sure flies Dec 8th

I can't believe it's been almost a month since I've posted. The time is just moving along. The park is in full swing with activities going on all the time. We've had friends arrive from various parts of the country staying at different parks all around the valley. W&G arrived a few weeks ago and stopped by to say hello and Jo & Steve are staying in Los Fresno and we went to see them a couple weeks ago. Saturday they are all heading to our place for a cookout. That will be fun.
We went throught a rainy cold week last week but it's warmed back up and we're all hoping it stays this way for the rest of the season (we know it wont)but at least for now it's nice, warm and in the 80's again.
I've had some wonderful tangerines off my trees this week. I never thought we'd have fruit off them this soon. I figured it would take years. I also have a couple of grapefruit that I haven't tried yet.
Next week will be a busy week. we're having a craft fair and also a golf cart Christmas parade in addition to the regular activities. Lady also has a spa apt on Wed.
I guess I've got ya caught up so bye for now

busy and loving it Nov 11

I knew it had been a while since I posted but not that long. first of all Steph's visit went great. Her flight here and back to ATL was smooth and we kept busy the whole time she was here. She wanted to get her hair done and also her nails so we did that. We went to the mall and tried a couple new restaurants. Never a dull time when Steph and I are together.
A few activities started up the last week of Oct so that got me into the swing. We started aerobics and we have a Hobo's dinner with a dance. That was fun. Steph and I served food to the "hobos" that night.
Now we're into Nov and boy has it picked up. A lot of the residents are back and a few more are expected this week. My schedule is packed full of aerobics, line dancing, Bible Study, spanish class, and office volunteering, walking and riding my bike so I'm staying busy, but that's what makes the time in the winter go so fast.
Larry and Phyllis drove down last week and got their rig all set up on our rental lot. They made it back home just fine and we're looking forward to them getting back down here in a few weeks.
Other friends are heading this way and we can't wait to see them. (G&W)
Gary and Marge should be here in Jan. and Mom in Feb. looking forward seeing them all.
I'm going to try and update this weekly but if I don't you know I'm just out having fun..

Oct and really hot

Well, after a nice cool down over the past weekend we're back up to 99 today and tomorrow..It's suspose to be cooling down again for the weekend I sure hope so.
In the past week and a half I've had a root canal done and a wisdom tooth pulled. I'm hoping the dental work is done for a while but with my bad teeth who knows. Steph is flying in on Friday for a visit. She was able to get about 10 days leave so she's coming to see us, she want get much time off during Christmas so by coming down now she can visit longer.
Not really doing much. It's too hot to be out side after about 11am till after 5. We did go to the Olive Garden for lunch today. It's a new place for us we've never been before. It was good. We're trying to go to a new place once a month. We seem to go to the same old places all the time.
That's about it. We know several of our RV friends are starting to move as the temps start to get cooler so everyone have a good trip to where ever you're going for the winter.

Sunday Sept 27

I have been meaning to blog but kept forgetting to update so I'll do it now. We've been here two weeks now and we're surprised at how many are already here for the winter. The people I've talked too all said the same things "where they spent the summer was cooler and wetter than normal so they headed back to the valley early". Well, approx 9 of the 14 days we've been here it's rained..now the locals are happy to see the rain but the rest of us have seen it all summer. It actually stayed in the 60's a couple of days this past week with drizzle..how odd is that..
I found out that the fruit tree with dozens of green fruit is tangerine and they are starting to change from green to orange, the grapefruit tree has about 5 or 6 and the orange tree has 1, only one.
Our Anniversary was Friday . our 28th yeah! So we went to Tony Roma's for an early supper. It was pretty good. We'd gone there a couple of other times with friends and since the closest Famous Dave's is over 700 miles away Tony's is our next choice.
We'll be doing our usual stuff this week..golfing, walking, biking, groc shopping and driving miss Lady..

we're back in the valley Sept 13

After 5 days of traveling through Alabama, Miss, Louisana we're now in Texas. We arrived back in the valley about noon today. We're about 3 weeks ahead of our winter schedule but we we'd been hanging around the southeast for about 8 weeks now so we were ready to get out of the humidity. We know it will be warm here for another month but we can take the heat as long as the humidity is low and it generally is here in South TX.
We have the Everest set up on our main lot so we parked the MH on the "rental lot" for the time being. We have to make sure everything is in working order on the E since it's been in storage for 3 years. So far everything seems to be working good. Next came opening up the Casita and getting the patio furniture and golf cart out of it. Lady saw the cart and couldn't help herself she ran and jumped on the seat ready for her ride around the block...she had to wait a few hours but she got her ride.
Our bushes are full and blooming and the plam trees are growing faster than we thought they would. A couple of the fruit trees have small green fruit on them. We believe one is grapefruit and one is orange.
No major plans for the rest of the week. We'll work on getting moved into the E and the Casita and closing up the MH for the winter. Most of our friends want be back till later in Oct and Nov so we'll entertain ourselves till they start arriving.

On the beach in MS Sept 10

We arrived at the Rv park on the beach and it was a little different than I'd visualized but it's ok. For some reason I was thinking the highway would behind us and the beach in front. But we're across the road from the beach.. but it's still nice and when the sun reflects off the water it's pretty. It's a small park and only about four rv's using it right now. It probally gets busy over the weekends.
I had a great day yesterday for my birthday. I recieved several calls and emails. 40 is so much fun, I've celebrated it for years now. We drove down Hwy 90 looking at the coast and seeing all the rebuilding from Katrina. Several new homes have been built and they are working on the piers too. It's taken a while but it's coming back. We were told by the park security that they've just now started work on redoing the state park that was wiped out. We use to stay there when we were in the area.
I think we're taking Lady for a walk on the beach later..She likes looking at the water but when the waves lap up on the sand she runs the other way.

Time to head to Texas Sept 7th

We've been in Gulf Shores AL for the past month and it's been fun but it's time to get on the road again. It's nice here and a good place to spend some time but next time we'll try doing that either in the spring or fall when it's cooler. It has cooled down some over the past couple of weeks but it's subject to rain anytime. That's the part that Reid didn't like. It would be sunny one minute and thundering and raining the next. We took a drive this week to Pensacola and ended up at Famous Daves for some ribs before heading back to GS. We want be near another FD's till the Spring. We have really enjoyed the seafood rests here. Doc's and The Shrimp Basket are two of our favorite. The best peel and eat shrimp I've had. And Reid likes the seafood gumbo and blacken fish.
We're leaving tomorrow and taking I-10 to MS for a few days. We're going to this RV park that's advertised "right on the beach" We'll see. It will be nice if you can look out the windows and see the coast line. This park has been built since Katrina so it's new and we didn't see it when we came through earlier in the spring. (we didn't know about it) I'll let you know if it's as good as advertised.

Great weather this week. Aug 26

After rain all day Friday we've had 5 beautiful days with lower temps and humidity..We've been in the mid 80's, sunny and the humidity has be really low. We like that. So far the storms have been kind to us. TS Danny is forcasted to go the same way Bill did so we should be fine the rest of this week too.
We tried another pizza place today. it was awful..you don't know till you try right. This one was in gulf shores and we should have stuck with seafood.
Lady got her rabies shot yesterday, you know the old saying it hurt me more than it hurt her. She did expect a treat afterwards and I didn't disappoint her. She lives for her treats..and it shows..
There's a flea market near here so we're checking that out tomorrow. We'll probally grill out this weekend.

Happy Birthday Danny Aug 26

Our oldest is 27 today..hard to believe. I knew he would be up early for school and then his afternoon job and football practice so I waited till this evening to talk to him. He doesn't like for me to sing happy birthday to him anymore, that's reserve for his Granny only.. But he said his birthday was ok (he's like his Dad when it comes to birthday, "just another day") but someone on the football team (he's one of the freshman coaches)found out cause before practice was over some parents showed up with cake.. I'm glad some one made a big deal over it.

This and that.. Aug 19

It's raining this morning. It's hard to tell if it's set in for the day or if it will move on out and clear off. We'd planned to go to the beach today but that looks like it will have to wait for another day.
We tried Lambert's Cafe for a late lunch/early supper yesterday and it was different experience. It's laid back fun. Servers walk around with serving containers asking you if you want more of something. This restaurant has a reputation for throwing rolls.. (their website is throwedroll.com. If you want another roll they will toss or throw it to you. They serve southern style foods (simular to craker barrel) but the portions sizes were huge.. In addition to your meat you get two sides plus "pass arounds" which are usually fried potatoes & onions, fried ocra, black eyed peas, macaroin & tomatoes, and cabbage and of course rolls (the biggest rolls I've ever seen) all of the pass arounds is as much as you want.
I brought home most of our chicken fried steak and tenderloins cause it was just so much. I can't imagine anyone ever leaving there hungry. We'd been told by several friends to try it out and they were right, Go hungry, don't go at meal time and watch for flying rolls. (They have two other locations in MO.)
Lady is at the doggie spa today. I called around yesterday and was able to get her in today. She's never happy when I leave her but she's so happy to see me return.
The tropics that looked like it was heating up last last week looks better this week. Nothing seems to be threating the gulf. TS Claudett didn't bring anything to us even though it made landfall about 75 miles east of us.

Gulf Shores AL Aug 13

We packed up on Monday morning and headed to LA (that's Lower Alabama if you didn't know) We came through this area in the spring and just loved it. Friends of ours, Jean and Tim have a place here but they aren't in town right now.
We arrived about 3pm and there was a thunderstorm passing through but by the time we got to our site it had moved on through so we were able to sit outside some.
We are staying at a different park this time and it's just wonderful. The sites are paved with patio area and the park is pretty empty right now. I've been getting in my walking and biking which I wasn't able to do in GA and I wanted to get back into a routine. I guess this is considered a non peak time here. School is back in session and the winter crowd want be here till in Oct/Nov sometime. It is summer so it's hot but no worse that GA or TN where we spent many years.
We've checked out a couple of our favorite restaurants already.. Seafood, of course. they were as good as we remembered. Reid tried to golf yesterday but it was just too hot so he only did about 8 holes before he headed back home..
We hope to stay in this area till mid Sept and we will unless any tropical storms start to head our way..

10 things I like about Warner Robins GA Aug 13

I was going to do my list of things I like about this area and I could only come up with one...Stephanie lives there.. This isn't a tourist area that's for sure. We did visit this time during peach season so I got plenty of peaches while we were here. Steph had her surgery follow up apt on Thurs Aug 6th and the dr cleared her to go back to work on Monday so with that news we decided to head farther south..We knew we were not going back north this late in the summer so we decided if we were going to be hot, and humid and muggy we might as well be that way in Gulf Shores, AL. We grilled out with Steph on Saturday night and she came back out on Sunday for our good byes. I had a wonderful three weeks with her but we don't want anymore surgery visits.

Happy Birthday Stephanie Aug 3

Today is Stephanie's 24th birthday. Yeah. It's the first one we've been together since her 19th so we had fun celebrating it. I spent yesterday baking her a cake..She of course picked out what kind she wanted. Today we took her to Longhorn Steakhouse for a late lunch/early supper. I sang Happy Birthday to her a couple of times, I tried to sing to her in the restaurant but she kept giving me the evil eye.
Reid surprised me with Braves tickets so on Saturday I took the day off from being Stephanie's "care partner" and we (Reid and I) drove to Atlanta to see the game. It was fun, hot and humid, but fun..Braves won so that made it even more fun..Steph couldn't go cause it would have been to difficult with her crutches so she wasn't invited..she got over it..
We don't have a lot of plans for the rest of the week. Steph goes to the follow up apt on Thurs and could go back to work the following week. We'll be deciding when to leave and head west once she sees the dr.
Looks like we'll be getting to Texas early this year.

Stephanie's doing great since surgery July 28

Steph had her knee surgery on Friday and came home the same day. She's been doing great. I stayed at her place for several nights but left her on her own last night. It's hard for her to go anywhere and do anything so she's been sitting around the apt and I'm running her errands..she loves to have me wait on her..I've fixed some of her favorite meals and she's already requested what type of birthday cake she wants next Monday.
Reid had the RV to himself over the weekend. Lady and I stayed with Steph. By Sunday Lady wanted to go home. Reid came over for lunch and when he left Lady laid by the door for hours waiting for him to come back. By bedtime she wants to leave.. She'd go to the door and then look back at me to follow. She was so happy yesterday when I took her home.
Reid decided to go golf today. It's hot and the humidity is starting to rise but so far the last week has been very nice.
Steph's follow up is Aug 6th so we'll know after that when we're leaving and where we're heading.

Visiting with Stephanie July 21

I'm so glad we got here early. I've had a blast spending time with Stephanie this week. We know after Friday she's gonna be out of it for several days.
Yesterday Stephanie and I drove around so I could find my way to her apt..tomorrow we're going to the hospital so I can find it..these are things I need to know...and with my sense of direction I'll need Jill.
We found a Chinese restaurant today and tried it. It was very good. I'd been craving Chinese for a while so Steph and I went..Reid decided to run other errands (he didn't want Chinese)
Her pre op is tomorrow and her surgery is sometime on Friday we still don't have a time on it yet. I expect it to be early but she's staying over night so I guess it could be anytime. She's actually have bone grafting done. Everything I've read says recovery can be from 2 weeks to 2 months depending on the damage to her knee.

Arriving in Warner Robins GA July 19th

We arrived in Warner Robins, GA on Sunday. Things didn't go smoothly at first. The rv park's office was closed..so we tried to find a site..Some one saw Reid looking at a site in a "reserve section" so he came over to tell him it was for overnight only and if we were staying longer we'd have to move in the morning. So we found another site but after sitting up we decided it wouldn't work for long term cause it had the dreaded all day sun and no internet. We decided to stay till the office opened on Monday and talk to the office about another site that we found that would work. but per the owner all the sites in the open area with shade were reserved for overnight use..and monthly was the area that we were already in. So we told him thanks but no thanks we'd find anther park that would have a site that would work and we'd spend our money there. So now we're at another park. This office is closed too.. So we find a site and start setting up..It's facing the right direction for afternoon shade so that's good. We got the tv working and the internet so we're thinking this is great...then Reid opens the power box and it's 30 amp..we never expected 30 amp in South GA. What to do, what to do...The office finally opens and Reid went to asked the owner about 50 amp but she didn't have anymore. We'll we decide to tought it out..We'll just use the air and not worry about using the stove..I'll be spending alot of next week at Stephs, I can cook and do laundry at her place. So it's decided, we stay..Later Monday night the owner came over and told us that someone was scheduled to leave on Thurs and they have a 50 amp site so we're hoping they do leave cause we can move over to it.
When we arrived here weather was great. Highs in the mid 80's with low humidity. Nice. Today was warmer, it reach 90. Still it's usually hotter here in July.

packed up and heading south...July 18

We packed up and left Michigan on Friday morning. The trip to Stephanies is about 800 miles. We decided to take I-75 down through Ohio. The traffic was pretty heavy. We don't usually travel on Friday but we wanted to go through Atlanta on Sunday. We stopped in a little town called Renfro Valley, Kentucky on Friday night. It was a nice RV park and it appeared the town was a tourist trap..There was a Red barn across the street and it had local talent performing most nights in the summer with some country artist playing occasionally. There was various stores and shops.. The RV park was laid out nicely. We headed out again on Saturday morning. We drove the rest of the way through KY and TN today. I wish we could have seen Danny but we knew he wouldn't have time to see us on this trip through. He was in classes all day. Yes on a Saturday. He should be finished with his school next spring. Yeah for him.
We got as far as north Georgia today. We'd been driving for about 5 hrs by then and we're in no rush so we decided to stop. Steph isn't expecting us yet and she was sleeping today anyway. (it's her first day off after a 6 day rotation so she catches up on her sleep her first day off). We're at Harvest Moon Park tonight. it's pretty nice too. It's got a sister park in AL that we'd stayed at before but we didn't know that till me got here.
Tomorrow we'll go the rest of the way (about 3 hrs) Reid wants to find a good site since we don't know how long we'll be here. A good site will have afternoon shade and we'll be able to get tv and internet..
The weather is mild here which is unusual for July. The temps today was mid 80 with low humidity. It was nice...

last week in Michigan for this summer july 15

We left Hillman MI (near Alpena) on Monday. Our week there went well but it was cool. (have you heard that before) After we arrived and got set up Phyllis called and we met them at Boltons for a late lunch/early supper. Phyllis' aunt came and so did Jim and Jan (we met them in TX last winter) On Wed we spent the afternoon at Phyllis but it was too cool for a boat ride so we just talked and grilled out. On Thurs it was the golf outing (it was funny to watch me try to golf)Friday was the fish fry, So you can see we had a fun week. We left on Monday and came back to WW for a week. We found out last week that Stephanie was going to have her second knee surgery on July 24. So we're going to head back south and help her for a few weeks. I hope this surgery fixes her problem.
The park here is pretty empty which is surprising, it's usually jammed for the summer. It will get busy again for the weekend. We had lunch today with Nancy and Bob, They are going to FL for the winter and we probally want see them again till we head back up north next July. They will be leaving the park tomorrow for their out weeks. Now we have to decide when to leave. Reid has heard it's going to cool down again and or rain so he's trying to decide if we want to leave before the rain hits or sit it out with the lows getting in the high 40's at night. I'll let you know.

I did it....golf July 9th

I did it...finally, I got on the golf course as a player...Reid had decided to wait till we got back to TX to put me on a course cause all the courses have been pretty crowded but we're staying on a course here at Thunder Bay RV resort and it's not super busy. There's this couple parked next to us, and they both play. Their names are Jan and John so we know two couples now that's Jan and John. Jan hasn't played long so the four of us went out today. Yes, I did have fun. Now about the 13 hole I was getting tired and I did keep my score under 200 so I felt it was a good outing. I'm probally going to be sore tomorrow.
I must tell everyone that the weather today was beautiful. I always mention the cold days so I have to mention the warm ones too. the high today was 74 and sunny. It was great.
We're suspose to see Phyllis and Larry sometime tomorrow after a walmart run.

A week with Phyllis and Larry July 7th

We finished up our two weeks in waldenwoods with a cookout on Saturday night. Nancy and Bob grilled out and their son Jason was there with his two kids. Connor and Jillian. After supper we hosted the camp fire and fireworks show. Actually we used our lot for the fire cause we had more room and the park put on the fireworks we just sat aroung the campfire watching the show. Lady usually barks and has a fit when fireworks go off so I usually put her inside but once these started shooting off she was hooked. she would cock her head different directions looking at them and then she sat down and stayed there for the entire show. She would growl at them every once in a while. I think she thought they were getting a little too close to her. Some more friends of Jasons showed up with their three boys and we all stayed up (including Reid) till after midnight. Can you believe we had 5 kids over and Reid stayed up. They were all good and actually the kids konked out before the adults did. We spend Sunday getting stuff ready to pack up.
We left for our week out of WW on Monday morning. We headed north..Now we're already freezing so why go farther north you ask.. only one reason..to see friends. Phyllis and Larry live here and we said we were coming up. (we're rethinking that our trip here next year will probally be in Aug)We arrived about 2ish and while Reid was checking in I was watching some ladies go in and out of the office and one thing caught my attention...they were all wearing sweaters...not a good sign for July is it. I have put away my shorts for the week and pulled out my long pants and sweatshirts. Phyllis called right after we got set up so we went to visit with them for a while. We haven't seen them since late Feb. I think they are coming over tonight but not sure what we can do cause it too cold to sit outside.
We're staying at Thunder Bay RV park and it's very nice. It's a small park with only 23 sites and only about 7 people rv'ing right now. (Reid said that's because smart rv'ers are in the south right now staying warm) There's a golf course across the street from us (we're by the 3rd hole) Reid said it's too cold for him to golf today. They have an inn here and also a bar and grill. Looks like everything we would need for a weeks stay. The closest town was Hillman and it didn't appear to have a restaurant it was so small maybe there's more to it we didn't see. Oh the sun just popped out...but Reid said don't get use to it it's not going to stay long.
I guess that's all for now..I'll let everyone know if we break 60 anytime soon.

I guess summer has been and gone july 2

After some hot Tennessee like days last week it's been either cold, cloudy, rainy, and windy or a combination of the above. The last four days have been awful. I can take a lot and I don't like to complain too much about it but when I'm wearing sweatshirts in June and July it's getting to the point to rethink our summer time plans. I/We like our summers to be in the 70 and 80 range and we thought we'd get that in MI. This is not our first summer in MI so what's up with the weather this year. I'm fixing to take my walk so I'll need a sweatshirt with a hood just to go enjoy it. South Texas is looking pretty good at 100 degrees right now. (LOL)
Monday we decided not to stay inside all day and watch more tv so we took a road trip just to get out and do something. Reid use to live (a long long time ago) in Bad Axe, MI so we drove there and back. There really wasn't much to see and it was raining but it was a drive so it was fun. We found the street they lived on but he couldn't pinpoint the house (hey it's been 37 years) We drove to Port Austin which is where his dad worked while they lived here. the base is no longer there but we saw a tower and the dorms were still there and being used by a Bible College. Port Austin had 3 restaurants. Two were closed and the one that was opened only had parking on the street which was full and the closest parking lot was a couple blocks over and with the wind and rain we decided to head back to Flint and stopped at Famous Dave's for supper.
No other plans for the rest of the week. Monday we're heading to Alpena. Our friends, Phyllis and Larry live there. she's already emailed me that we've already missed their summer. They winter in Mission too that's how we met them. We haven't seen them since Feb so it will be fun to see them again.
I think this weekend might be nice and warmer, we'll just have to wait and see. Reid is freezing I think the heat is fixing to be turned on.

Tennessee weather in MI June 24

Hello everyone, I'll get everyone updated. The state has finally warmed up for us. You know I've said how cold it's been well it's in the 90's with some humidity so it's feeling like Tennessee this week. I believe it's going to cool back down into the 70's by the first of the week if you can believe the weather people.
We left Ohio on Monday and arrived back at Waldenwoods. We were surprised to see how full it was considering it usually empties out during the week and fills back up for the weekend. The holiday is coming up so everyone is doing like we are and getting our site claimed so we can have a good site. Some are probally wondering what's involved in finding a good site. We'll I'll give you some pointers. First you want to be as far from the playground, lake and kid activity area as possible. (that's one of Reid's must haves). Then you want to make sure your rv is on a site that's going to give you afternoon shade so you can sit outside and not have the sun on you all afternoon. Then you hope to get a site that has the big three SWE, That's sewer, water and electic..you gotta have those if you plan on being here for two weeks. Those are a few things you can control if you get to the parks earlier enough before holidays..some things that's nice but you don't have control over is avoid sites that have yapping dogs, or playpens with multiple big wheels in the yards. That's just a few things to watch for if you're every living in your rv.
We don't have a lot of plans for the next couple of weeks. Reid we golfing yesterday and will probally go again this week sometime. We have to make a run to Sam's to get meds so we're going to do that tomorrow. Lady has an apt at Animal Crackers Pet Salon on Monday..just love that name. So that's my plans for the next few days.
Everyone stay safe and cool

Our week in Ohio June 17

I was going to post when we arrived but I forgot. Anyway we arrived at Erie Island RV Resort and Marina in Ohio on Monday. This park is nice enough and if you like water sports then you'd love it here. We came here cause it's close to where we're staying this summer and it's one of our membership parks. So we decided to get our two weeks useage out of it this year. We used this place last year as we were making our way south in the fall. We've seen some membership parks that we didn't like at all but this one is very nice. We even left one after one night cause it was so bad. Just because we can use them don't mean we will...Peak season is picking up and we're surprised at how empty the parks are this summer. They'll probally get buiser closer to July 4th.
Does anyone agree with me that this has been a very wet spring. We've been on the road since mid Mar and we've has sooo much rain. I understand spring is rain but not like this.. In 13 weeks we've covered 15 states and 10 weeks of rain..Reid keeps saying "it's not raining in Mission" no, it's not, but it's 100 degrees daily...not going back there just yet.
If it keeps raining we'll spend the rest of this week reading, watching golf, and baseball so all is not lost. We'll get on the road again on Monday.

June is moving along. June 12

For some reason June has always seemed like a slow month to me but not this year, it's moving right along. We've been in Waldenwoods almost two weeks. We'll be leaving here on Monday for a week. We haven't really done much the past couple of weeks, Reid has golfed some and I have my walking and riding that I try to do daily but we haven't been so busy going places and doing things that we're wore out. Don't get me wrong I love to see new things and go to different places but it's also nice to have some down time where nothings planned. We are enjoying the new Hartland Grill for lunch. New owners took over this spring and fixed up the place and the food has been really good.
I've been craving Chinese food but haven't seen too many restaurants around this area. I'll probally have to wait till I get back to TN and go with my sister. We usually do that when I come through town.
The weather is still cool here but we're adapting. the high today is 72 (I'm hearing from TN that it's about 88 today and humid, we don't miss the humidity)
We're planning to grill out this weekend and they are calling for showers on Sat so it will probally be Sunday when we do it.
I have to close now and feed Lady her supper.

Here for the summer June 2

We arrived in MI yesterday. We'll be in this area for the summer. I tried to blog last night but it said something about cookies having a break in them and I decided to try again later cause that was too technical for me but today it's working fine.
We arrived in Waldenwoods about 1pm yesterday. We found the perfect spot and got all set up. The clouds that were hanging overhead left shortly after we got here and the rest of the afternoon was sunny. That's always great to see. Nancy and Bob stopped over for a few minutes they are at another park till Thurs.
We had planned to get groc's this morning but it was sunny instead of rainy when I got up and Reid wanted to go golfing (hey it had been a whole week) so we went to breakfast first at Leo's. That a great breakfast place.. We ordered what we wanted and the servings sizes where huge. Can't eat like that all the time. When we got back Reid left to go golfing and I got my bike out again and tried another mile (gotta get use to the hills again) I'd already walked two miles and rode one before breakfast but when you eat a big meal another mile want hurt, right.
We had a rain shower go through this afternoon but I hope it clears off again. It's cooler here than we've been in lately and we're hoping it warms up soon. You know me anything under 80 is cold and it's 59 right now. Burrrr

We're on the move May 29

On Wednesday morning we heading out of KS. We spend 14 days there and we had 12 days of no rain at all. We had two afternoon/evenings of showers but no strong weather so our time in KS was great. We made our way to MO the first day. Now I thought we'd head north through NE and IA but this was Reids' time to plan and since we're not really planning and our goal is MI on June 1 he thought this way was best. (anything to keep us from towing near Chicago is fine with me) We stayed at a nice rv park about an hour west of St. Louis called Lazy Days Campground. It was just for over night but it would have been ok if we'd wanted to stay longer. It was nicely laid out and the scenery was pretty. On Thurs we drove into IL and IN. We'd talked about stopping near Indy but that's where the rv parks were limited. We kept watching for signs but really didn't see anything..(It's like you see several the first hour you're traveling but as it's getting closer to time to stop you can't find any) Our goal for the weekend was Shipshewana so we decide it would be a long day but we went for it. We arrived about 7 last night. We like this area and it's a good place to spend the weekend. We're heading into our membership park in Mi on Monday for two weeks. That park is very nice and shady but still open enough for our internet and tv to work. We enjoy it there. Today it was lunch at Das Essenhaus, an Amish restaurant that we like when we're in town.
Right now it's fixing to rain (Reid not happy) and it's cooled down a lot. The forcast said on Thur that this weekend here was going to be mid 70's and sunny for three days and that's not happening..oh well we should be use to the weather being wrong my now. later

Two years and counting May 25

Two years ago today we took it on the road. What a fast fun two years. My job ended on May 24th and we were ready to leave town the next morning. We actually started living in the rv full time in Mar 07 while we were getting the house emptied to sell but hung around TN till my job ended. We've seen a lot of nice places but it's the friends we've met that's been so special.
We've had a nice quiet weekend. This park only had a couple other rv'ers show up for the holiday weekend so it was pretty nice. The weather called for storms today but we only had one quick shower to pass through this morning and that was it.
We grilled ribs out yesterday. We've never had much luck grilling ribs before but Jean and Tim (fellow RV'ers) told us how they do them and we thought we'd give it a try. They turned out so good. We couldn't believe how tender they were. (look out Famous Dave's)
Lady didn't sleep well last night, she kept jumping up, running to the living room, barking and growling. This went on several times. She was sure something was outside, I'm figuring a critter of some kind. I never heard or saw anything but she was sure something was out of place, she never reacts that way. She just kept doing it so in her mind she was protecting us from something. Our little protector.
She's sleeping right now but will probally go on guard duty just as I'm going to bed.

Kansas still May 24

Yes we're still in Kansas. The weather has been just beautiful. We thought we'd hang out here for a few days and watch how the weather was doing and 11 days later it's still great. I never expected it to be this pretty, sunny, warm and dry but it has been. As it got closer to the end of the month and the holiday weekend we decided we were going to stay right here till after Memorial Day.. It's hard to find parks empty for a holiday weekend. We haven't really done much the past several days. We've done our groc shopping and hit a couple of restaurants. Yes we finally got in our Famous Dave visit. We love their ribs and we all know there's no FD near us in So Texas so we have to wait till we're on the road to find one. So last Thurs we planned a late lunch early supper and "pigged out" on ribs. On Tues we had to go back into town to get something done at walmart and we'd seen a lot of Mexican restaurants in this town so we thought we'd give one of them a try. Now everyone knows with the exception of San Antonio and La Mesilla we haven't found what we consider good mexican food. So of the three restaurants we saw we decided on Carlos O'Kelly and it was terrific. We were both very happy with our choices and the taste were delicious. I even bought a pint salsa it was so good.
Reid had been able to golf a lot over the past couple of weeks and I've been Keeping up with my walking, reading and watching tv.
We've decided not to head into WI., the RV parks seem to be really limited and we know we're leaving here on Wed but that's all I know for now. I'll have to see which way Reid points the rig on Wed morning.

We're here May 13

But where's here..Kansas..you ask why...We planned to leave AR this morning and stop in Okla City for the night. But then it appeared that they might have a good chance of storms, some severe, so around noon we decided we'd keep going north of Okla City and head into Kansas. We'd stayed at this RV park before about 12 miles north of Wichita and we really liked it so we thought we'd stop here for a few days (weather depending.) This park is not busy and we found it by accident last time we were here. It's no frills and quiet, grassy, level..
The weather has been good. Sunny, breezy (ok windy at times) but still nice, There were some storms to the north of us and east but nothing going on where we're at.
We don't know how long we'll be here. We're waiting for it to warm up farther north so for now we'll watch the weather and try to chase the sun

Where are we now May 12

Jacks up, antenna's down, we're off. We traveled this morning on I-40 (a road we've taken many times) This part of 40 is rough and needs fixing and they did have some of it under construction but only is small area. We did drive through a shower (we expected it so Reid was ok with it) As we got started this morning all we knew was we needed a walmart for groc and might have to stay at one tonight..we'd gotten into AR and a walmart truck passed us and we both said at the same time "follow that truck" (sometimes I wonder if we spend too much time together) LOL we drove on and on and a big 18 wheeler passed us and it had Biggest and Baddest Tour written on it with a big picture of Toby Keith and I said "follow that truck" we didn't, but we did find a walmart so I could get my groceries. By this time we've been on the road for about 5 hrs (with a one hour stop to get groceries) and we decided to stop for the night..We found a KOA west of Little Rock and pulled in there for the night. It's a KOA so it's so-so and it had lots of trees but Reid was able to get a site with a break in the trees so we could get tv reception (Braves play here). First day on the road with no schedule went fine.. Now we'll see where tomorrow takes us.

Now where to...May 11

Ok, Rally is over...still some rain...what to do, what to do...We've been sitting around for the past few days trying to decide where to go next..I pretty much planned the first 2 months of our travels when we left TX cause I wanted to take our time and see the kids, see the coast, met up with friends. so that was the plan.. Reid was planning this leg of the trip and orginally he wanted to go to KS, NE and end up in Wi but he stratched that idea several weeks ago..Then it was time to leave the Southeast and all the spring rain we've been in the last 7 or so weeks and we didn't know which directions to go..It's still cool in Wi and MI by our standards. (night time temps in the 40's isn't for us) there's rain in the forcast still so after carefully watching the weather channel and the internet the last couple of days Reid decided that we'd head west on I-40 and go from there. So for the first time in our two years of traveling we have no plan. We're taking a page out of George and Wilma's book and just going..(this is hard for me cause I plan my day just when I'm staying inside the rv all day long how am I going to let go of control of a schedule.)
stay tune to our unscheduled trip..

Rally time. May 4-8

We headed to Natchez Trace State Park on Sunday for our annual spring Everest Rally. We've been meeting here for 3 years now with pretty much the same group..We had 11 rigs at this years rally with 2 of them being newbies.. (first time Everest rally attendees.) we've had a great time meeting the new ones and catching up with our other friends. We did miss some of our friends that were not able to attend due to being across country and couldn't make it and we sure did missed them. This week started off with wet. We've had a lot of rain the past 7 or 8 days but today was beautiful and dry.. can't say what the rest of the weekend will bring. the guys were so happy to see the sun that 5 of them went to play golf and one went fishing. Some others did some sightseeing.
On Tues we had our meet and greet cookout, then last night it was the pot luck followed by our Chili cookoff tonight. We always eat well at these rallies. We had a camp fire on Tues night and we tried to have one last night, it would stop raining and we'd gather then the rain would start again and we'd go in, then the rain would stop and we'd try again so I finally gave up but some of the die hards squeezed under an aweing and tried to keep the party going even during the rain. I don't know what time they finally gave up and called it a night. Tonight was too warm for a fire but we were able to sit outside in our circle and talk and laugh and laugh and talk..The rally offically ends tomorrow with several leaving and heading toward Michigan. Some are leaving on Sat and we're leaving on Sunday. We've had a great week and will be seeing most of them again in Aug at our Homecoming Everest Rally in IN. We've truly met some great friends in this group.

Visit back home Apri 27

We spent a week visiting our Moms back in Middle Tennessee this past week. We arrived on Sunday afternoon and got all set up. We went back to a campground that we'd used several years ago when the kids were young and it worked out real well. We had all the hook ups we needed and could still get TV and internet. We have finally found a workable place to stay when we visit "home". I got to see My niece, Jennifer, her three kids and Larry her husband on Monday. Mom and I had lunch with then and we had a great time. She's actually Reid's niece by blood but she's been mine since she was 7 so that counts. right. On Tues I visited my Mom and then had lunch with my BFF from my working days. We always have fun. Jennifer needed a babysitter on Wed so I went with Mom to "play" with the baby while she did the "babysitting" duties, we then took the kids to lunch once Kate (9 mos) finished her nap..After lunch I was wanting a nap. Thur Reid had a dr apt. It was his yearly stress test so he went for his 2 hr apt I went shopping.. I didn't want to stress out during his test so I went to shopping therapy. I had lunch with my sister on Friday, she and I always go out for Chinese when we're together.
On Sat I saw my niece Jessica, hadn't seen her since her wedding, it was fun catching up with her. That's my busy week. Loved every minute of it. More to come on our next stop.

Visit with Danny April 25

This has been a fun week. On Wed we had to find a Walmart supercenter cause we were out of a lot of stuff. Wed. evening we headed to Red Lobster (my favorite) to met up with Danny for supper. It was great and we had a good visit even though it was a short visit. Danny keeps very busy with his teaching assist job, Kid's place after school job, taking classes on Fri and Sat's, and coaching the AAU girls team. I was glad he could work us in to his schedule. (of course we planned our trip on the week he was not going to be in classes). On Friday Reid and Danny found a golf course and played 18 holes of golf. Danny spent the night with us and on Sat morning he and I headed to the gym for his tournaments. It brought back memories of all the times I've spent in the gym with him and Stephanie..I'd forgotten out much we parents got into the games.
We finished up around noon and it was decided that Reid and Danny had time to do some more golfing so they head back to the course...I stayed home and watched the Braves play.. we're on a roll, Three straight wins!!!!Go braves.
Once the guys were home I had the steaks and potatoes ready for the grill so that's how we finished off our day.. I so love my visits with the kids.
Now I have to get this rig ready to travel tomorrow. Next stop: hometown. We'll be "home" for a week visiting family and dr's visits. updates later.

Moved on to Tennessee Apr 21

We packed up and headed out of Hilton Head, SC on Monday morning. The weather was great (we were expecting rain all day but it was nice). We had a great time here and glad we decided to make this one of our stops this spring. The golf tournament was great and the park was really nice. We drove about 4 hrs and stopped for the night somewhere in northwest SC. Today we traveled the rest of the way to Knoxville, TN. This is where our son lives and we're visiting him for the next few days. This park is an Escapees park and it's cramped, the sites are short and narrow but it's near where we need to be and beside there's nothing else any better in this area..
Reid said if our bedroom slide was any closer to our neighbors bedroom slide we'd need a marriage certificate with them.. (I thought that was funny). We went out for lunch cause I really need to get groceries and to checked out a "new" rv park that we saw a sign for from the interstate and it was funny...someone took a piece of land right by the road and put in a few power boxes and is calling it an rv park..where we're at is better and that's not saying much..
The weather is suspose to be nice the rest of the week and that's good cause Reid is wanting to get in some golfing and we're meeting Danny for supper tomorrow night. He has to work till 6pm and tonight he also had ball practice (he coaches an AAU 9-12 yr old team) so we made plans to see him tomorrow after work.
Now I'm watching my Braves play and I'm not real happy with them..they haven't been playing good lately after a strong start... I know it's only April and the season is long but they're my Braves and I want them to win...go braves.

I finally get on a golf course April 15th

Yes I'm finally on the course and I can't play..What's up with that... We headed over to the golf course today to watch the Pro/Am practice round. We passed several courses before getting to the one the tournament is at..This island is pretty.. and we finally found the Atlantic coast. it's by the 18th hole.
We got an early start this morning, we wanted to get to the course and find out what we needed to know so tomorrow we would know where to go and not go. We got to see several big name players...like BOO, I think he's my favorite to watch this weekend. We saw him tee off and he had a big crowd following him around the course..I believe Reid said he won this match last yr. I have to say I had a good time at my first time at a course and I know tomorrow will be fun cause it's the pro's only playing. The weather was great with the high reaching 70 and sunny..The forecast all weekend is suspose to be great. Now all I have to do is find a seafood place to try and my trip will be complete.

Hilton Head & a quick trip to Savannah Apr 13

We arrived on Hilton Head Island on Monday after a long 200 mile drive from Stephanie's. We arrived about 1pm and by 3 is was raining. OK pouring. That continued the rest of the afternoon and throughout most of the night. There were some storms but nothing that was severe so we can handle some rain. On Tues we headed to Savannah..To begin with Reid thought it was a lot closer than it actually is..It's over an hr drive from here and we didn't get ready to leave here till almost 11. Once we arrived we really didn't know where to go or what to do. We found the visitor center and it offered various buses and trolley tours. but because of the lateness of the day we decided to drive around ourselves. Bad idea..Everyone else had the same idea. it was crowded, congested (road construction and road closes) We decided very quickly that we can't rush a trip to Savannah so we're going to go back again at another time and spend 2 or 3 days just in Savannah.. We found a couple of RV parks that a lot closer than this park here on HH Island so that's our plans next time through. Beside as Reid says "this is a golfing week anyway"

Happy Easter Everyone

Hey it's me again. Happy Easter to everyone. The day was beautiful. It was sunny, warm and had a nice breeze. I fixed a big dinner/lunch for Easter. Stephanie came over to enjoy it with us. She stayed for a little while but we had to say our goodbyes cause she's in leadership classes and had to go home and study and then get some sleep, she usually works nights and her days while in classes start at 5:30 am. We were glad her classes started this week cause it gave her more time to visit with us. I hate saying good byes so we just leave it with hugs and see ya next time through...I hope we get to see her when we head back through in the fall but sometimes her schedule doesn't allow it.
Tomorrow we're off to SC. We'll be staying in Hilton Head SC and we'll be going to see a golf match next week. We've never been to a match so this should be fun and interesting. We're also going to spend a day in Savannah. That's been one of the cities I've wanted to see since we started traveling and we're finally in the area to see it. I'm looking forward to it and I'll be sharing it with ya'll. After this week I'll be seeing my other guy...Danny, I can't wait...

Our week in Georgia

Sorry I haven't posted but I've been fighting a virus or something..yuck..I'll now update everyone. We had a great week in Gulf Shores and visiting with Tim and Jean. We decided to check out the sunset on Saturday night. There's a bar/grill called Tacky Jacks and it overlooks Mobile Bay so we had a wonderful view. We spent Sunday getting ready to leave and after a trip to walmart for supplies we had lunch one more time at the Shrimp basket.. On Monday we headed to GA. It was the longest travel day we've had since our trip begin. It was about a 7 hr day..The day was very windy so Reid had to fight the wind all day. We went out and about some on Tues and Wed Reid wanted to golf..Steph was going to be off work on Wed so she spent the night and she and I hung out. By Wed afternoon I was starting to feel bad with chills, fever, headache, just awful.. these symptoms came and went for the next day and a half so I don't know what was wrong. I'm feeling better today no chills and fever but just blah.. Stephanie will be here soon and she will spend the weekend with us. We're going to watch the Braves game on tv (weather permitting) and have Lasagna (one of her favorites) and tomorrow we're grilling out. Everyone take care...

The sun does shine in GS April 3rd

We got to our RV part Monday about noon. The day was fine. The clouds rolled in on Tues and the downpours started Tues night. Again I like rain so it's ok for a while. It then rained off and on on Wed and was cloudy the rest of the day and on Thurs it was storms...no wind so I never really felt threatened but downpours after downpours..One storm would move out and a break in the weather then the next storm. This went on all day. We decided to go out for supper with Tim and Jean cause we were tired of being inside so we headed to the Shrimp basket...great seafood.. loved it..Reid wants to go back on Sunday. he had the shrimp basket (ha what else would you order at "the shrimp basket" right) any way T&J had the blacken fish and Reid sampled it and loved it so he wants to try an order of it..
Today has been just beautiful. The sun was out early, no clouds in the sky and the temp a nice 70 degrees..The four of us headed out the see the area and checked out a new development specializing in deeded property, then it was off to the state park to see the camp grounds there. We then decided to have lunch and found a nice seafood place (Doc's) excellent gumbo (per Reid) and the Shrimp was super. (I'll eat regular stuff once we leave the coast) We're grilling out tonight so I'll be getting that stuff ready soon. Tomorrow promises to be another beautiful day so more later.

On the way to Gulf Shore Mar 28th

We had another rowdy thunderstorm last night. That's three nights in a row..We also had wind last night but nothing serious.
We headed down I-10 this morning toward Gulf Shores, but we stopped at the camping world on the way cause we needed to have an antenna installed on the rig. So they kindly put us up the next two nights till our Monday apt. They have full hook ups for people needing stuff worked on so we have the all the stuff we need here. Lady even has a grassy area behind the rv so all is well in LadyLand.
Tomorrow we're going to check out the area and scope out our next rv park. We have friends staying there already.

Spring storms gotta love them

It's been raining since Wed evening. For those that know me know I love the rain..I love listening to it hit the roof of the rv when I'm going to sleep and if it's warm out I don't mind walking around in it but for those that know Reid you know he hates rain. Hates it..totally hates it. The evenings and throughout the night has been the worse. The rain started back last night about 10pm and thunderstorms rolled in about 2am and they were heavy..Good thing there was no wind with it or I'd been concerned. We believe the rain will be out of the area by Sunday.
We headed out looking for a seafood place yesterday..We love mcelroy's and it was distroyed when Katrina hit but they've have another location on the bay side of the city and we'd never been there. We were looking for their website and found an address but the reviews were awful. We started thinking that maybe it wasn't worth going all that way to check it out with bad reviews but we didn't find anything else between here, Bay St Louis and there, Ocean Springs so we decided to go for it and we're glad we did. The food was great, just as good as we remembered it. The prices had gone up some (but it's been 4 yrs what do you expect) so the moral of this story is reviews are just a persons opinion and everyone's opinion is different. We were glad we decided to go for it.
We are heading out tomorrow for Gulf Shores, AL, we've never been there so we'll be doing some sightseeing. We're meeting up with some Everest friends, Tim and Jean, so that will be fun seeing them again.

On the move March 25

Sorry I haven't posted this week, I meant to but I hadn't. We drove for about five hours on Sat, Sun and Monday and arrived in Bay St Louis, Ms on Monday afternoon. The weather has been good. It's in the mid 70's with sun right now but they are calling for thunderstorms later.
We used to come to this area when we lived in Tn but hadn't been back since Katrina so seeing it now my opinion is slow progress. Most of the foundations for the distroyed homes are still there but nothing else. Lots of yards have "land for sale" signs put up. The biggers chain businesses have rebuilt but not our favorite Mom and Pop seafood places. I've seen your standard restaurants like Burger King, Sonic and Mcd but while on the gulf coast I want seafood. We do know that our favorite place has relocated to another location so we'll be checking them out before we leave. They are hoping to rebuild at their orginal location but so far that hasn't happened yet.
We'll be hanging around here another couple of days and traveling again on Sat.
more later.

Traveln' Days begin March 21

After staying in one place for the last 5 and a half months travelin day arrived. We were up early to get the final things ready for leaving. Actually so Reid could get the last minute stuff done I just wanted to get in a walk before we left so I was up at 7:30 and while Reid disconnected hoses and stuff I headed out for my walk around the park..I got in a few more good byes before I left. The trip was good. Nothing much going on. We went through the border patrol point quickly, they weren't asking a bunch of questions just motioning people through. This time of the year rv's are going through constantly. We got to Victoria, Tx about 1:15 and got everything set up. We had reservations so it didn't matter what time we arrived..we didn't want the same problems with not finding any place to stay like we had coming down here. We'll be getting on the road early in the morning

Getting Road Ready March 18th

This week started out with great weather. We've decided we can't expect to much from March, weather wise, but this week has been calm with sunny skies and 80 + degree days. They've been wonderful. We've spend the last 3 days getting the rig ready. Today Reid washed the rig and started putting useful stuff in the storage bays. I was working on the casita getting it all packed up. Everything is just about done so the next couple of days want be too hectic.
I've been saying my goodbyes for the past several days and several of our closest neighbors are leaving between this weekend and mid next week so we're having a block party Friday night so everyone can visit before we start leaving over the weekend.
I'm pumped that basketball tournaments are starting up tomorrow. So, for the next several weekends I'll have basketball to watch..then as soon as that's over it's Baseball season..I do love my baseball....go Braves.
chat later.

See this picture

I'm just playing around with this and I don't know how I got this to put the picture on my blog but if I figure out what I did I might have more pic's in the future..Just so you know this is Lady our four year old. She's been camping and rv'ing with us since she was about 10 weeks old.

the itch to travel

We have offically been in South Texas for 5 months and 6 days and the itch to get moving has hit. We were planning to stay till mid April but we're ready to move on. So with the decision made we're going to finish the week here and leave next Saturday..the 21st. (that's the time we left last year) Our friends are leaving anyway and the parks are empting out so it's time.
I really thought all summer that I'd be totally bored here for 6 months but I'm happy to say that wasn't the case. You want find too many places with nicer weather in the winter months when most of the country is having snow. With the many activities the park offers I didn't have time to get bored. I've already got plans for next season to help with the welcoming committee and to work again in the office..of course aerobics is starting back up in Nov and I'll be doing that again too..
We will be heading toward the gulf coast when we leave here. We're hoping to met up with some friends along the way. Phyllis and Larry are going to be staying in North FL for a few weeks and we might met up with them but they are "cruising" this week and they told me not to call them while they were on the boat so I can't let them know yet that our plans have moved up some. We also may see Tim and Jean in the Mobile/Gulf Shores area. We know we're going to be around the coast for the next few weeks so that will be great I really love the coast. I'll keep ya'll posted as we start to move around this great country for the summer.

Monday March 2

February went out with a cold front after a record high of 100 on Friday. The cold front dropped the temps to 60's and 70's. Not really cold but after a few days on 90's and higher 60's shocked the system. As for March, today was beautiful and calm but it's reported that the next several days will be windy..I can do with out the wind.
We drove up to Sandia Tx on Friday. Mom has a family friend that lives there now so we spent the day driving and visiting. Sat we took Lady to the groomers, she looks wonderful by the way.
Monday came and Mom's trip had to end. Reid took her to the airport this morning and she arrived safely at home this afternoon. She did return to snow. Our hometown of Bell Buckle recieved about 8 inches of snow yesterday. that's about 5 yrs worth of snow for them.
March is shaping up to be another busy month too. I'm back to working the office on Monday again but only for this month..People are starting to leave here and the lady that worked on Mondays left today. In fact I saw three RV leave just this morning. This place will be empty by the end of the month at this rate.
We're going to have lunch with G&W on Thurs. We're looking forward to that, we haven't seen them the past couple of weeks.
We'll I've rattle on long enough.

Busy Times Feb 26

Wow have I been busy...Seems like I've had something to do every day this month and I love it.
The highlite of the past couple of weeks has been Mom's visit. She's been here since last Thurs (19th) and will stay till Monday (Mar 2). She and I have done several things around the park and also spent time just sitting around reading and talking. Sometimes we let Reid sit with us and talk too. LOL.
Since my last post we've had a luncheon, block party, and a supper all here at the park. I had fun at all of them. This past week Mom and I have gone shopping, went to the Craft Fair, Church on Sunday, Riverside for Shrimp and fries and to the Crazy Buffet. Reid went to eat with us both times. Tomorrow we're driving a couple of hrs to see a family friend of Mom's. We'll make a day trip out of it. Poor Lady can't go.
Several are starting to pack up and leave the area. Some are heading home whereever home is, some are heading west for a while and others are heading to various places. Our friends Larry and Phyllis are leaving this weekend and even though it's been a short couple of months with them we've had fun. We've made plans to see them again this summer. Saying good bye is always hard but we know we'll see them down the road somewhere.
My golfing is going slow. Now that people are starting to leave the area the course want be so crowded and we plan on me getting on the course starting in March. I am going start taking beginning lessons on Tues with another lady from the park..
I guess that's all I have more later.

Golf anyone Feb 11

I decided that I would try my hand at golf. I've never been on a course before and don't know a wood from an iron but it's very popular and I'm asked all the time to play so I decided there might be something to it, I'll give it a whirl. Right now Reid is my instructor. We've been to the driving range a couple of times and to the putting greens once. I thought it might be a good way to spend a couple afternoons a week and get some excerise. I have plenty to keep me busy in the mornings but by afternoons are mostly free. Various groups play throughout the week but I want get on the course with them this year maybe next season.
Reid's Mom is coming to visit next week. It will be fun having her here. She and I can do lunch on the days Reid's on the course. I know we'll have fun we always do.
The first week of Feb was very windy. We had 4 days in a row that the wind never stopped blowing. This week has been better...the temps are great and the winds have calmed down so much.
I have another busy month with activities at the rec center and of course we stay busy on weekends having friends over for cookouts or card playing. This will start to slow down in March as people start to pack up and head south again.
I need to call it a night since I have a 7:15 am aerobics apt in the morning.
Can you imagine me getting up for aerobics that early. Bye now

Jan 29 Thurs

It's me. It's been a while since I've posted so I'll catch you up on the past couple of weeks. This has been a busy month for us at the park. We had a spaghetti supper last week that we went to with Linda and Jim. Then last Sat the park hosted a luncheon and fashion show that I worked, had fun at that too. On Monday we went to a rv gathering. We met up with W&G but it wasn't what we expected. We stayed for a couple of hours then headed home. Wed was Reid's birthday but I had more fun on his birthday than he did..I sang to him a couple of times, I kept getting "the look" so I stopped singing. I went to one of the other parks for a swinsuit sale and met up with Wilma and Phyllis. We checked out all the suits and I actually found one that I liked so I plan to go to water aerobics next month when they start it back up again... Then later went to Tony's for ribs for Reid's birthday.
We got our palm trees planted this week and they look great. We had the water system hooked up again (the previous owner took it out when he put the rock in) anyway since he was replacing the watering system we went ahead and did the palms this summer too so it would be all completed.
I guess that's all I have for this post..check back later.

This month is moving along Jan 15th

Hey everyone...first of all Welcome Mary...my sister in law is on line again and she'll be keeping up with us as we travel so in addition to having a new email buddy she'll be following my blog..
This month is moving fast. Of course I'm staying busy with my rec center activities. Also my walking and biking is keeping me moving.
Our weather for the next couple of days want be tropical but compaired to TN I can't complain and family in TN wouldn't want to hear me complain about 60 degree weather when they are having 20's as highs.
I worked the craft fair on Tues and that went fast..I did get to check out some of the booths and found a cocker spaniel lapel pin so it was worth the trip.
We are planning to play cards on Sat with G&W so that will be fun..maybe someone will win besides W. Is she good, lucky or does she cheat as others have said....I haven't figured it out yet. I leaning toward she's just good....
We have a Spaghetti supper to go to on Tues and that's good, any night I don't have to fix supper is good,
I hope I'm not boring you all, but during the months that we don't travel this is our life. I've been busier than I thought I would be and that's made the time go fast..
have a good rest of the week.

Where's the sun

We've had beautiful weather for several days now with high's in the 80's and sunny with winds in the calm to slightly breezy range.....till today..yesterday was 86 and today 56. I never saw it higher than that..what a different it makes. It wasn't windy today but it was dreary..cloudy and gray...the up side is it's suspose to be better tomorrow and sunny and 80's again by Wednesday so we can handle a gray day here and there right...
We played cards on Saturday with some friends. We had a great time and made plans to get together later in the month to do it again. We also decided to go to the RV net get together later in the month with them so that will be fun.
I started walk aerobics at the rec center this morning. I've never tried that before but I want to give it a shot. It was fun and I'll have some muscles tomorrow that aren't going to want to work. We're meeting 3 times a week and there was a good turn out for the first day. I had to rush home and get my shower and get back to the office by 10 for my volunteering. I also had to set the alarm clock to get there on time...it starts at 8:15 but I want to do it so I'll get myself up in time to go...I need to go to bed earlier at night to make those early days. The office was busy, it always is on Mondays but I see lots of people that have a simular hobby as mine....talking....what a way to spend a couple of hours..
Reid was hungry when I got back and was wanting shrimp and fries and we have two places that we like so we decided to go to the Riverside cafe..on the way over I start thinking that it was closed on Mondays. On the way over we decided to see if Larry and Phyllis arrived and sure enough they we in and still sitting up. So we asked if they wanted to go to lunch and they did so we head to Riverside...yes it's closed...that's ok there's always Eric's right...so we get to Eric's and it's looking empty. the Lady that owns (owned) it was outside washing windows and she told us they'd sold the business and the new owners would be opening it later in the week. We really loved their shrimp baskets so we're going to check it out in a week or so and see if the food is still good. We're glad the owners were able to sell it..they had planned to keep it open during the winter texas season and close it if they couldn't sell so that's good for them. By now it's almost 1:30 and we're still hungry so we head to Granny's and had a late lunch early supper. We each had something different and it was all good. Reid had a bean and ham soup that was the best ever...he was raving about it so I had to sample it too and it was very good. We dropped on Phyllis and Larry and headed back home. The rest of the day was spent inside cause it was too cold outside...boy it hits the 50's and we hibernate..

Happy New Year

Happy New Year everyone. 2008 was a great year and I pray that 2009 will be too. We saw several states this year. TX, MS, TN, GA, KY, IN, MI, and OH. We visited family and attending our niece's wedding in TN, we were with Stephanie in GA for her knee surgery, we also attended 2 Everest rallies and a family reunion. We visited with friends that we've met while traveling along the way. yes also during all this Reid worked some too.
We had a quiet New Year's Eve. We invited Linda and Jim over for supper. We hung out here all night. We had a nice fireworks show that Mexico put on. The fireworks started about 7ish and went on till after midnight. You could see the fireworks real good from our place and you could hear the music and the partying too. Lady sat on the front seat and watched it all.
I spent the day watching football and Reid golfed. The course has gotten so crowded it's hard for him to have fun. We don't have a lot planned for this week. Things are getting busy at the rec center and I'm going to have a lot to keep me busy with my volunteering this month. We're having supper, a fashion show, a craft fair. We're also going to an RV net get together later in the month so I shouldn't get bored in Jan.
Again everyone have a great year.
